Calico toile process
We starting working with Emma last year in July, to create her bespoke wedding dress. The brief was based on Emma ideas and inspiration that was gathered. Emma wanted a timeless classic elegant bridal gown.
Emma was having a tradition English style wedding, Her wedding ceremony was taking place at her church in Regents park. Followed by a wedding reception at The In and out club in Mayfair.
For the wedding dress design her wedding was taking place in January of this year. So Emma went with a classic bodice design, a slash neck with a deep v back neckline with 3/4 length sleeves, the sleeves was fitted with cover buttons details.
Emma chose a classic a ballgown style cut for her wedding skirt, Emma loved the skirt design we did for a previous bride. So we added deep pleats and pockets to the design. I also suggested Emma go for a built in train for her wedding dress. As I felt for the style of wedding and the setting a train was a must in terms of back detail for her wedding dress.
Once Emma's wedding dress design was finalised we began the process of creating her bespoke wedding dress. Her body measurements was taken, and we began the process of creating a wedding dress pattern for Emma's wedding dress. The pattern is then cut out in a calico fabric which is what you see in the images. This fabric is traditionally used for the design development of your wedding dress.
This process also allows us to make any necessary alterations in terms of the fit and cut of the wedding dress. We usually allow for at least 2-3 fittings to perfect the fit and cut of your wedding dress or bridal piece. As you can see we needed to make some alterations to the bodice area of Emma wedding dress.
Every area of Emma's wedding dress is fitting to ensure she is comfortable throughout the day. Here I was testing the dress to see if Emma was comfortable sitting in her wedding dress.
A further fitting was attended by Emma once we had completed all the alterations on her wedding dress. This here is the Shell fitting of Emma's wedding dress, which is the wedding dress in its chosen fabric. Without the lining or buttons trims attached to the wedding dress. Again this is to check the fit is okay on the dress, any last minute alterations are carried out before Emma's wedding dress is fully lined and finished.
