So, you’ve bucked the trend and you’re going for a winter wedding. Well
done! I’ll let you into a secret – I absolutely love winter weddings! There’s
just something extra magical about those frosty mornings and the bright
sunlight that comes with a cold, crisp beautiful winter’s day.
And when it’s cold outside, the warmth of a wedding is felt all the
more acutely. One thing’s for sure however, if you’re getting married in the
winter, the key to success is staying warm. Even the hardiest of brides will
feel the chill after a few minutes of posing for photos in a winter wonderland.
Here are my tips for brides who want to remain cool during their winter
wedding, by staying warm.
Coats and jackets
Fashion-forward, modern brides will love a white leather or
metallic biker jacket—this would look especially gorgeous over a classic lace
gown or a textured sheath for a chic contrast. If you don’t fancy the biker
look, how about opting for a denim jacket instead? It’ll double up as your
‘something blue’ and it’s a perfect match for anyone going for a winter
bohemian style wedding.
Blazers
Bridal suits are growing in popularity, but if you don’t want to go to
that extent, why not try wearing a blazer over your gown? The shape of a blazer
is so feminine and adds real class to an outfit. This would be a great option
for a more formal registry office service or perhaps the ideal way to finish
off a modern take on the white dress. Blazers offer a chic way of transforming
the gown into a winter style that is really striking.
Boleros and shrugs
A beaded cape and jacquard jacket will add that extra-glam pop to your
wedding day look. If you want to get really decadent, you can go for an
embellished tulle, lace, or fringed number to take your look to the next level.
That said, a simple fine knit or cashmere bolero looks timeless and pretty but
is quite effective in keeping out the chill too.
Capes and Cardigans
I mentioned capes in a previous
blog post, and they’re well worth considering for a winter wedding. A
beaded cape or a waterfall style cape is not only graceful and elegant, but I
particularly love a shorter length style. Ideal for a bride as it doesn’t take
away any attention from the star of the show - the dress itself, but it does
add something really special to the overall look while keeping you warm during
those winter wonderland photoshoots.
If capes are not your thing then why not consider a simple, elegant
little cardigan. They can easily add a splash of colour to tie in with your
theme, or a touch of luxury with a little fur or velvet collar detail.
And of course, the best thing is you’ll be able to wear it again and
again.
